Hello I'm new here
Hello everyone.
I drive a 2003 mercury marauder black in color.
Just got it a month ago
But now having an issue with it.
With the car running then turn head lights on then the car shuts off. I check the battery and replaced it with a new one. Battery terminals are clean. Didn't change anything. I check the charging system and it goes from 14.2-14.5, volts at idle. Any ides whats going on?
I've herd maybe an alternator, ground issue, or head light switch.

The ign system requires a certain amount of power to be available to it and if it is less than required, it is just like shutting off the key.
You need to make sure battery power is always available when the key is on. One good place to verify this is at the ign coils that should have battery power (12 volts) to them whenever the key is on. Easy to check with a test light or multimeter. I would suspect there is a poor connection coming from the ign sw or supplying the coils.Voltage should be checked there BOTH when the headlights are off and then when turned on.
When you turn on the headlamps , the poor connection to the ign system is deprived of the necessary power due to the poor connection.
It could be a ground connection , but if it was , you should have other electrical problems which don't appear to be the case.

Thank yo for getting back to me and sorry for late response. Works been busy and life lol
So I figured it out. Found a broken wire on the passenger front fog lamp. Fixed the wire now car runs with lights on. Thank you again for your help
Thank you for getting back to us.
The 'fix" of a broken wire is probably only part of the picture.
I would suspect that broken wire was either contacting a ground when the lights were tuned on.or was pinched or damaged for that to take place.
Can you shed some light on just how and possibly why that wire got broken ?

So long story short the car was hit in the front from previous owner. And has aftermarket led fog lamps. And they rigged the harness together at the fog lamp. They used car speaker wire to fix it. Obviously it didn't work lol. I'll be fixing it this weekend when I have time. But after I some what repaired there repair. I drove the car no issues. Then tonight I went to leave in it turned the lights on car will start to die then battery light comes on then the car dies. For that broken wire. I'm getting a new pig tail from the ford dealer to fix it right. Hopefully I can get one. I'll get you guys updated. If you have any ideas let me know please. Thank you again.
