Ignition coil problems PO354 2006 Five Hundred
Just the two wires from the connector that plugs in to the coil. When I took it apart last weekend, I thought maybe also that connector was not making a good connection because it wasn’t snapping into place. I had bought some new connectors a while back when I needed to replace one on the Front of the engine. Anyways, it was about the time that I cut the wires from the existing original connector when I realized how brittle those wires were no flexibility at all. It was a bear trying to strip the old insulation off them to get a good connection. But I got that done and put it back together and it seemed to be fine for the first few days. Now as a sidenote, two times today in my travels, the engine light came on and two times I cleared it. Now I just now drove home from work, which is about a 17 mile drive city streets and freeway. And the car worked perfect. And this is what’s throwing me off is why it works fine sometimes and then other times it freaks out on me. And that’s why this thing is driving me nuts. And the car just turned over 194,000 miles today.
Thank you so much! I will definitely check that out. Not much else to go by and I appreciate that diagram as well, I just wish I was smart enough to understand those schematics. Working all weekend so I won’t even have a chance to look at it till maybe Monday. So far today, the car is working great. I think my car is psycho and has two personalities.
Still having problems with this particular coil for some reason. I have switched the plug out twice and the coil out twice. The weird thing is is it’ll be great for maybe a week and then all of a sudden it will start cutting out and sometimes it will trigger the engine light and I will get the same code on the code reader. Other times it will just act up for maybe a mile or so and then snap out of it and be fine for a few more days or even a week. I cannot figure out why it does this. And unless there is a bad connection somewhere that I cannot seem to locate. If that is the issue, it would have to be somewhere in the wiring harness, I would suspect. Very peculiar.
If you are looking at the engine from the front of the engine where the crankshaft pulley is located, the cyls on THE LEFT SIDE are numbered 1,2,3 from front to rear. You are looking at that #4 cyl, right ?

OK, refreshing my memory again… So many problems with this car lately. I miss working on my 61 Comet. Anyways, I don’t understand why this is an often on thing with this car. Sometimes it works great for a week at a time and then it’ll start acting up and I get that PO354 again. And then it’ll snap out of it and be good for a day or two or even the week.
Keep in mind the "circuit" includes the plug, coil, wiring, and PCM..
Any one of these with a poor connection or intermittent fault are capable of causing this code..
The idea is to check and verify all of these are are doing their job all the time.
You could even have a poor connection at the PCM where the multiple connector plug connects to the PCM. All these need to be checked for cleanliness and tightness to assure a good and constant connection..
